Application Process

Application Process:

Students will apply through our online application platform, Student Learning and Licensure (SL&L). The application is FREE and does not need to be completed in one sitting. Student Learning and Licensure (SL&L) allows you to save your progress, gather required materials, and upload documentation to your application portal as you obtain it. Please note that all application materials must be completed and submitted by the stated deadline for consideration.

When Do I apply to the Teacher Preparation Program?

While many students apply to the Professional Program during the spring of their sophomore year or the fall of their junior year, every student’s academic journey is different. Individual circumstances and program requirements may influence when a student is prepared and eligible to apply.

Don't Miss Out! Be sure to check your CCSU email regularly, as the School of Education Dean's Office hosts several workshops throughout the academic year to help you successfully navigate the Teacher Preparation Program application process.

These sessions are a great opportunity to learn about the admission requirements, application process, important deadlines, and overall timeline. You'll also have the chance to ask questions, receive personalized guidance, and gain helpful tips to ensure your application is complete and submitted with confidence.

Ready to take the next step?

The Fall Teacher Preparation Program application opens in mid-June, and the Spring application opens in early December.

When each application cycle begins, the Assistant Dean emails all pre-education students with everything they need to get started. The email includes step-by-step instructions for completing the application, a checklist of all required materials to ensure a complete submission, important deadlines, and a direct link to access the online application portal.

Professional Program Application Timeline: What to Expect

Once the application deadline has passed, the Assistant Dean reviews all applications to ensure they are complete and that applicants meet the minimum GPA requirement. Following the initial review, eligible candidates will be invited to interview with faculty in the department where they are seeking certification. Department faculty will contact qualified candidates directly to schedule an interview during the designated interview period.

When Can I Expect to Hear About My Admission Decision?

The review process typically takes approximately one month following the application deadline. During this time, applications are carefully reviewed to ensure all requirements have been met and admission decisions are finalized.

Students who apply during the fall application cycle can expect to receive their admission decision in late October. Students who apply during the spring application cycle are typically notified of their decision in mid to late March

Requirements for Program Progression and Success

As a teacher candidate, you are pursuing both an academic degree and a professional teaching license. This dual responsibility comes with important expectations related to academic performance, professional growth, and demonstrated readiness to enter the teaching profession.

In addition to academic expectations, candidates are expected to actively engage in all aspects of their preparation program. This includes regular class attendance, successful completion of required field experiences, timely completion and submission of assignments, and demonstration of professionalism in coursework, school-based placements, and interactions with faculty, peers, and school partners. These expectations are designed to ensure that candidates are prepared not only to earn their degree, but also to enter the classroom as knowledgeable, reflective, and committed educators.
