The Connecticut State Department of Education (CSDE) requires candidates seeking Special Education Certification (Grades PK-12, endorsement # 165) to successfully complete the Praxis II: Special Education AND The Foundations of Reading Assessment.

Important Notes:

  • The Foundations of Reading test is administered separately through Pearson while the Praxis is administered through Educational Testing Services (ETS).
  • The School of Education at Central cannot recommend teacher candidates for certification until they have successfully passed Praxis II and the Foundations of Reading Assessment, and all other program requirements.
  • While many Central students pass on their first attempt, others may need to retake it—and that’s okay! We strongly encourage you take the exam early, giving yourself time to retest if needed before finishing your program.
  • You must wait one full month between test dates. This helps to ensure a fair and consistent testing process for everyone.
