Teacher Certification

The Connecticut State Department of Education (CSDE) issues all Connecticut educator certificates. Before an institutional recommendation can be submitted, students must: 

• Successfully complete all program and degree requirements. 
• Successfully complete all required clinical experiences, including student teaching. 
• Meet all applicable Connecticut certification assessment requirements.  
• Satisfy all Connecticut State Department of Education certification requirements in effect at the time of application. 

Applying for Certification 

Detailed guidance is available on the Steps to CT Certification page, which provides detailed instructions for completing the Connecticut certification process. 

After completing the required steps and once all program requirements have been verified, the CCSU Certification Officer will submit the institutional recommendation to the Connecticut State Department of Education on the student's behalf. 

Reporting Assessment Scores 

Candidates taking Praxis assessments should request that official score reports be sent to: 

• Central Connecticut State University (ETS Recipient Code R3898) 
• Connecticut State Department of Education (ETS Recipient Code R7050) 

Important Information 

Connecticut certification regulations are established by the Connecticut State Department of Education and are subject to change. All applicants must meet the certification requirements in effect at the time their application is submitted, regardless of when they completed their educator preparation program. 

Alumni are responsible for meeting all certification requirements in effect when they apply for certification. 

To avoid delays and ensure compliance with current regulations, candidates are encouraged to apply for Connecticut certification immediately following program completion, even if they do not plan to seek employment in Connecticut right away.
