Steps to CT Certification

  • Step 1: Create Your CECS Account

    • Visit the Connecticut Educator Certification System (CECS) portal.
    • Create an account using a personal email address (not CCSU email).
    • Save your login information.
    • Record your Educator Identification Number (EIN).
  • Step 2: Apply for Certification

    • Log in to the (CECS) and click "Apply Online".
    • Select the appropriate endorsement.
    • Submit an application.
    • There is no fee for an initial certification. A $100 fee applies to each additional endorsement.

    Step 3: Submit Your Institutional Recommendation (ED 170A)

    • Request official transcripts from all colleges and universities you have attended.
    • Wait until your CCSU degree has been officially posted before requesting your CCSU transcript.
    • It is strongly recommended that you mail your official transcripts directly to the Connecticut State Department of Education.
    • Include your Educator Identification Number (EIN) on the envelope and mail your transcripts to:

  • Step 4: Monitor

    • Check your CECS account regularly for updates.
    • Standard processing time for certification applications is 6-8 weeks and 10-12 weeks during peak months.
