Next Gen Educators

NextGen Educators is a strategic partnership between the Connecticut State Department of Education and Central Connecticut State University designed to strengthen the educator pipeline by connecting teacher candidates with paid, hands-on classroom experiences in K–12 schools. This initiative supports the preparation of future educators while helping school districts address workforce needs through early talent development.

The NextGen Educators program is designed for Central students enrolled in an Education Professional Program leading to initial teacher certification. Through this initiative, students gain paid, practical experience in K–12 classrooms that complement their academic preparation. Unlike traditional student teaching, participation in the NextGen Educators program does not carry academic credit; instead, partnering school districts provide compensation for the student’s service, typically at the district’s daily substitute rate.

By engaging in authentic classroom responsibilities earlier in their preparation, these aspiring teachers strengthen their instructional skills, deepen their understanding of the profession, and build professional networks that are critical to their future success as educators.
