Industry, Transportation & Culture in Germany

A diverse cohort of undergraduate and graduate students will travel to major cities across southern Germany to expand their academic knowledge and develop global perspectives on industry, transportation systems, and cultural heritage. This immersive study-abroad program is strengthened by interdisciplinary instruction from faculty in Manufacturing and Construction Management, Engineering, and English, ensuring that students gain both technical insights and cultural awareness.

Throughout the program, students will use multiple modes of transportation to explore Germany’s advanced infrastructure and urban environments, transforming travel itself into a learning opportunity. Industry-focused site visits will include guided tours of the Mercedes-Benz manufacturing facility and TRUMPF, where students will observe cutting-edge developments in automotive production and smart manufacturing technologies. The academic itinerary also highlights the relationship between humans, technology, and society. At Heidelberg Innovation Park, students will examine how human-centered planning integrates technology, media, and the built environment to foster innovation and collaboration. 

In addition, visits to the University of Konstanz and DHBW Mosbach will offer meaningful opportunities for students to engage with German peers. These interactions encourage intellectual exchange, cross-cultural dialogue, and community-oriented perspectives in higher education.

Located in the southernmost region of Germany, within walking distance of the Swiss border, the city of Konstanz provides a unique cultural and geographical experience. A Bodensee (Lake Constance) excursion offers a rare four-country journey through Germany, Austria, Switzerland, and Liechtenstein. It features stunning Alpine landscapes, UNESCO World Heritage Sites, and crystal-clear waters, combining natural beauty with cultural and transportation significance. This experience will enrich students’ understanding of Europe’s interconnected history and global context.
