Housing Cancellations

When you apply to live on campus for the fall semester, you enter into a year-long housing contract, agreeing to reside on campus for both the fall and spring semesters.

Fall Semester Housing

Students who apply for housing beginning in the fall semester may cancel their housing contract without penalty by June 30.

  • Cancellation requests submitted on or before June 30 will be processed.
  • All housing and meal plan charges will be removed.
  • The $250 housing deposit is non-refundable.

Spring Semester Housing

Students who apply for housing beginning in the spring semester may cancel their housing contract without penalty by December 1.

  • Cancellation requests submitted on or before December 1 will be processed.
  • All housing and meal plan charges will be removed.
  • The $250 housing deposit is non-refundable.

If you withdraw from the University during the contracted period, you must complete the following steps:

  1. Submit a Housing Cancellation Request in MyHousing under “Applications.”
  2. Submit a University Withdrawal Form, available on the Registrar’s website under Forms.

Once the University confirms your withdrawal and you have completed your move-out, your housing cancellation will be processed. Refunds will be applied as follows:

  • The $250 housing deposit is non-refundable
  • Housing refunds follow the University’s published tuition and fee refund schedule:
    • 100% of term charges cancelled prior to, but not including, the first day of the term.
    • 90% cancelled during the first week of the term.
    • 60% cancelled during the second week of the term.
    • 40% cancelled during the third and fourth weeks of the term.
    • No cancellation of charges after the fourth week of the term.

Students who remain enrolled but wish to request release from their housing contract must:

  • Submit a Housing Cancellation Request in MyHousing under “Applications.”
  • Provide a detailed explanation for the request.
  • Upload any supporting documentation, if applicable.

Approval is not guaranteed and requires a substantial reason. Requests are reviewed by the Office of Residence Life. A decision will be sent to your Central email account within 30 days of receipt.

All refund percentages are based on:

  • The date the cancellation is approved, and
  • Completion of checkout, including removal of all personal belongings.
  • The $250 housing deposit is non-refundable.

Spring-Only Cancellation:

If you lived on campus during the fall semester and your spring cancellation is approved before spring move-in, and all belongings are removed prior to the first day of the spring term, 100% of spring housing charges will be cancelled.

If your housing cancellation request is denied, you remain financially responsible for the full duration of your housing contract and retain the right to occupy your assigned space.

Students who wish to appeal should reply directly to their cancellation decision email. Instructions for submitting an appeal will be provided.

Students in the following categories who submit a Housing Cancellation Request will be automatically released from their housing contract:

  • Participation in an internship, co-op, study abroad, student teaching, or other academic obligation that reduces or eliminates the need for on-campus housing.
  • Verified medical reasons approved by the appropriate University department.
  • Graduation at the end of the fall semester.
  • Academic dismissal prior to the end of the contract period.
  • Official withdrawal from the University or an approved leave of absence.

Students whose housing contracts are cancelled for conduct related reasons remain financially responsible for housing charges through the end of the semester in which the removal occurs and are not eligible for a refund.
