Student Learning & Licensure

The School of Education at Central Connecticut State University has chosen to partner with Watermark’s Student Learning & Licensure for assessment, accreditation, and continuous improvement.

Student Learning & Licensure advances effective assessment to improve student learning and institutional quality. Student Learning & Licensure provides online solutions and supporting services to plan and manage assessment processes and demonstrate both student learning achievement and institutional effectiveness for continuous improvement and accreditation.

Student Learning and Licensure

  • What is Student Learning & Licensure (SL&L)?

Student Learning & Licensure (SL&L) is the online assessment and portfolio system used by the School of Education to support students throughout the Teacher Preparation Program.

Think of SL&L as your professional education hub. It is where you will submit key assessments, document your field experiences, and track your progress toward completing the requirements for Connecticut teacher certification.

  • Why Do I Need an SL&L Account?

As a teacher candidate, you are working toward both a college degree and a Connecticut teaching license. In addition to completing your coursework, the Connecticut State Department of Education (CSDE) requires candidates to demonstrate competency through a variety of assessments and field experiences.

SL&L allows the School of Education to:

    • Collect and evaluate required program assessments
Track field experience and clinical practice hours
Monitor your progress throughout the Teacher Preparation Program
Ensure you have completed all certification requirements
Maintain documentation required for accreditation and state approval

An active SL&L account is required for all students admitted to the Professional Program.

When Do I Purchase My Account?

Most students should purchase their Student Learning & Licensure (SL&L) account only after they have been officially accepted into the Professional Program for Teacher Certification. There is no need to purchase an account before your acceptance. Once admission decisions have been released, you will receive instructions from the School of Education on how to create and purchase your account.

Exception: If you are enrolled in one of the following teacher certification programs, you will purchase your SL&L account during the semester in which you apply to the Professional Program, as you will be enrolled in a course that requires access to SL&L before admission decisions are released.

The following All-Level certification programs purchase SL&L during the application semester:

    • Art
    • Music
    • Dance
    • Physical Education
    • Technology and Engineering Education
  • How Do I Purchase My SL&L Account?

Once you have been accepted into the Professional Program:

    1. Watch for an email from the School of Education with purchasing instructions. The instructions will be included in your acceptance letter to the professional program
    2. Follow the link provided to create your SL&L account.
    3. Complete your registration using your CCSU email address.
    4. Purchase your account using a credit or debit card.
    5. Keep your confirmation email for your records.

*Once your account has been created, you will use the same login throughout your teacher preparation program.

    Cost of Your SL&L Account

    • Student Learning & Licensure (SL&L) is required for all students pursuing an initial or advanced Connecticut educator certification.
    • Your Student Learning & Licensure (SL&L) account requires a one-time fee of $139.00 (plus applicable tax).
    • This single purchase provides you with access to the platform for the duration of your teacher preparation program. You will use SL&L to submit required program assessments, document field experiences, and track your progress toward meeting Connecticut teacher certification requirements.
    • This is a one-time purchase that covers your use of the platform throughout your teacher preparation program.

What does this mean for you and our community?

For Students

With Student Learning & Licensure, you have access to a rich set of capabilities that supports your education in meaningful ways, not just a place to turn in assignments. Here are just some of the things you can do with your Student Learning & Licensure account:

  • Reflect on your learning experiences inside and outside of the classroom and personal growth over time regarding the knowledge and skills you are expected to master as a result of your education.
  • Receive rich feedback from others, beyond course grades, for helping you improve in the areas that matter most for your discipline and general education.
  • Turn your work into multiple high-impact online portfolios that showcase your experience, skills, and achievements through a variety of media for employers, instructors, and others.
  • Maintain a record of work samples and accomplishments even after you graduate.
  • Contribute to the accreditation and improvement of your program and institution -- the data the institution collects from scoring their work can be used to assess effectiveness and inform improvement.

Students - Accessing Your Student Learning & Licensure Account

All students within the School of Education in programs leading to teacher/leader certification will be required to submit electronic evidence at various points in their training.
