Brittany Tubbs (Ernst) - Class of 2016
My undergraduate experience at Central laid the foundation for everything I do today. As a psychology major, I discovered my passion for research through courses like Research Methods and my honors thesis with Dr. Conway, where I gained valuable analytical and critical-thinking skills. Being a student-athlete taught me how to balance multiple priorities, stay disciplined, and work hard which are all lessons that continue to serve me in my career today. After Central I went on to earn my M.A. in Industrial-Organizational Psychology and Ph.D. in Organizational Science from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. I began my career in the HR Leadership Development Program at Travelers in Hartford and now work on the People Analytics team, where I analyze workforce data, build dashboards, and provide insights that drive business decisions. The skills, experiences, and relationships I built at Central truly prepared me for a rewarding and impactful career.
Tyler Mirando – Class of 2017
I graduated from Central Connecticut State University in 2017 with my B.A. in Psychological Science, and the foundation I built there continues to shape how I approach my work today. At Central, I gained a strong grounding in statistics, research methods, and scientific rigor – skills that help me analyze complex data and make sense of human behavior at scale. Courses in psychology introduced me to the field and prepared me for advanced study in my Ph.D. program. Faculty across Central, like Dr. Horowitz, Dr. Fallon, and Dr. Bragg played a key role in my development, challenging me to think critically and deepen my technical expertise. Central gave me the opportunity to grow and become the professional I wanted to be. It helped me overcome my fear of public speaking by pushing me outside my comfort zone. My coursework and professors gave me the tools to communicate ideas clearly, and opportunities for research and conference presentations turned that confidence into genuine excitement for sharing my work – a skill that’s essential in my role today. My experience at Central also deepened my ability to listen to and learn from perspectives different from my own, something that continues to shape how I collaborate and lead. Central provided the spark that inspired my career and continues to influence the way I build responsible, equitable systems that help people succeed.
Currently, I’m a Principal Consultant and Industrial-Organizational Psychologist at HackerRank, where I work with Fortune 500 organizations to design assessment solutions that create fair opportunities for candidates and employees. My work blends psychological science, technology, and business strategy to help some of the world’s largest and most influential organizations identify and develop people. The work I do helps companies hire the engineers who build the technologies we all rely on — from the apps that connect us to the systems that power industries across the globe. Every time you pick up your phone, go to the store, search online, or swipe your ATM card, you’re probably using software built by someone I helped my customers select. I use data and psychological science to help organizations understand people and jobs so they can make better, fairer decisions about who to hire and how to help them grow.
