Pathways to the Nursing BSN Program
Students enter the BSN program through Direct Admission or the Pre-Nursing major. All applicants must apply to the Pre-Nursing major through the Central Office of Recruitment and Admissions, and each application is reviewed for Direct Admission eligibility during the admissions process. Applications are due by May 1 and are considered for fall admission only.
OPTION 1: Direct Admission
Direct admission allows eligible high school applicants to enter the Nursing major directly rather than first completing the pre-nursing track, provided they meet the following criteria:
Direct admission is awarded to students who meet the following requirements:
- High school GPA of 3.2 or higher
- High school Chemistry with lab, grade of B or better
- High school Algebra II, grade of B or better
Plus one of the following Chemistry readiness options:
- Score of 4 or 5 on the AP Chemistry exam, or
- College credit for the equivalent of CHEM 161/162 with a grade of C+ or better, or
- Eligibility to enroll in CHEM 161/162 in the first semester at CCSU
Math Requirements (used to determine eligibility for CHEM 161/162):
- SAT Math score greater than 530, or
- Placement out of MATH 102 or 103 on the CCSU Math Placement Exam
OPTION 2: Pre-Nursing
Applicants that are not eligible for Direct Admission into the Nursing Major may apply to Pre-Nursing and later apply to the Nursing Program after completing the prerequisite courses. See the Nursing Program application requirements.
OPTION 3: Transfer and Re-Entry
If all prerequisites are completed:
- Apply to the Pre-Nursing major in late fall or winter. Transfer students must have confirmed acceptance to Central prior to Nursing application.
- Complete the ATI TEAS test and submit the Nursing Program application by February 15 for consideration for the following fall semester. Refer to the Nursing Program application requirements.
If prerequisites are not completed:
- Apply to the Pre-Nursing major and meet with a College of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences (CHRS) advisor to plan and complete the required prerequisite courses.
