Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS)
Created and managed by ATI
The TEAS is a multiple-choice test that evaluates student competencies needed for nursing curriculum in reading, math, science and English/language usage. Students should visit the ATI website to learn more information. Scores from the previous 18 months of application date will be considered.
The cost of the TEAS exam is $120. The cost is set by ATI and is not connected to any Central account.
Step 1
Create a student account on atitesting.com. To identify Central in the ATI system - enter the name as: Central CT State U.
Step 2
Register for the exam. Students may take the exam either:
- Online remote proctored exam - managed by ATI
- In person proctored at a PSI testing center
Step 3
Applicants MUST obtain an adjusted individual score of 70.0% or greater.
- The adjusted individual total score will count as 25% of the total admission application to the Nursing major. Central will accept the highest score on record - within the posted deadlines and following the remediation testing timeframe.
- Students can take it ONLY 3 times during a calendar year.
- Scores will be finalized 4 business days after the test date (weekends and major holidays not included).
- If a student does NOT achieve the minimum score of 70%, they MUST WAIT one month before testing again and complete ATI suggested remediation
Step 4
Upload TEAS transcript to the Nursing application (Note: the first transcript is free; ATI charges a fee for additional transcripts).
Nursing Major Application Process
The nursing application will open from January 2 through February 15.
Step 1
Access Nursing application via BSN Application tab on the Nursing BSN webpage.
Step 2
Complete application and upload ALL applicable transcripts from institutions other than Central. Your information will be password protected and encrypted. Please read the second page carefully - as those agreements/policies are pivotal to understand (note that some of the fillable fields to sign are your initials only).
Applications will be ranked as follows: 25% Overall GPA, 25% BMS 102/103 or equivalent, 25% CHEM 161/162 or equivalent, and 25% ATI TEAS score.
Applicants will be notified of their status by mid-March. Please DO NOT contact the Department prior to receiving that notification.
