Central’s BS in Electrical Engineering offers students the opportunity to build knowledge and skill in traditional applications of electrical engineering, as well as innovative applications in emerging fields. The curriculum includes courses and laboratories in both traditional electrical engineering and emerging fields such as renewable energy, energy storage, and electric vehicles, etc. The program emphasizes undergraduate education through quality instruction with a strong focus on analysis and design.

Students may select to concentrate in one of three areas

  1. Embedded Systems,
  2. Power Systems, or
  3. Electronic Engineering

Or they may instead elect to customize their degree by taking courses from across these areas.


The BSEE Program is seeking accreditation by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (EAC of ABET).


The Electrical Engineering program seeks to prepare graduates who, after the first few years of their career, have:

  1. Established themselves as valued practicing electrical engineers working primarily in the region.
  2. Become supportive members of the community and active professionals, seeking continuous skill improvement and professional growth through activities such as graduate education, professional licensing, certifications, promotions, and active participation in professional societies.

Major Requirements

Required General Education Courses

Arts & Humanitites (9 cr)

Must include a 200 level Literature Class

Social and Behavioral Sciences (9 cr)

Mathematics and Natural Sciences (9-10 cr)

For students exempt from the World Languages requirement, credits in excess of that required by this portion of general education may be applied to the General Education Elective. Students not exempt from the World Language will fulfill the General Education Elective requirement with classes in World Languages.

Written & Oral Communication (6 cr)

The remaining 3 credits in this requirement will be fulfilled based on writing placement.
