Student Clubs & Organizations

There are several student organizations at Central that focus on specific academic subjects or special interests. Membership in these organizations fosters social relationships, develops leadership skills, and provides an essential component to the unique experience that makes up a total university education.

National Association for Music Education (NAfME) Student Chapter

The National Association for Music Education (NAfME) is a professional organization for music educators. Since 1907, NAfME has worked to ensure that every student in the U.S. has access to balanced, comprehensive, and high-quality music instruction taught by qualified teachers. It encourages the highest standards in music education, and instills awareness of the music educator's important role and responsibility toward enrichment through music education. NAfME provides essential professional development and employment resources. Membership in NAfME is required for all Central music education majors. Monthly meetings feature guest speakers who speak about important topics in the field of music education. The chapter is led by student officers and advised by Central music education faculty.

American Choral Directors Association

The Central Department of Music has an active student chapter of the American Choral Directors Association. ACDA provides essential professional development and employment resources. Monthly meetings feature guest speakers who speak about important topics in the field of choral music. The chapter is led by student officers and advised by Central music education faculty.

Acappella Groups

Central is home to four student-led pop acappella groups. The Central Connecticut State University A Cappella Society is overseen by the Student Government Association and the Office of Student Activities & Leadership Development, and is not a function of the Central Department of Music.
