Physical Education & Human Performance

Central's Exercise Science program is designed to prepare students as leaders in physical activity, exercise, and allied-health related professions through academic, practical and research experiences. Students are prepared for employment in the fitness industry, including corporate wellness and strength and conditioning centers. Students are given the necessary cognitive and practical experiences for exercise physiology certification (EP-C) by the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) and certified strength and conditioning specialist (CSCS) by the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA).

Exercise Science is also considered a “stepping stone” major that provides strong educational foundations for entry into graduate school or professional healthcare degree programs. Our academically rigorous Exercise Science program at CCSU allows students to transition seamlessly into programs, such as Nursing, Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, Physician Assistants, or Prosthetics and Orthotics. If you are not sure of your career path, our Exercise Science degree will provide versatility and a strong educational foundation to explore different occupations.

The Exercise Science program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Programs (CAAHEP). Our curriculum is designed to have students take the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) Certified Exercise Physiologists (EP-C). Through Central’s 3+2 program, the B.S. in Exercise Science may also lead to an M.S. in Athletic Training in just 5 years.

Additionally, our Exercise Science program at Central is an Education Recognized Program (ERP) through the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA).

As an ERP school, our undergraduate curriculum is approved for preparing students to take the NSCA Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) and provides additional student benefits.
