Cross Endorsement

Cross Endorsement in Health Education

The school also offers a cross-endorsement in Health Education. A cross-endorsement may be obtained by anyone who has an existing teaching certification in any area. The state regulations are that the candidate takes coursework in the area in which he/she seeks the endorsement.

Connecticut certification regulations require the following course work to be eligible to add a cross-endorsement for Health Education to a valid Connecticut teaching certificate:

  • 30 semester credit hours in health including:
    • 3 semester credit hours in Drug Prevention Education (approved Central courses include PSY 454 Drugs and Behavior OR CNSL 568 Alcohol and Drug Counseling); and
    • 3 semester credit hours Group Facilitation (approved Central courses include: PE 337 Group Processes in Health Education OR CNSL 500 Dynamics of Group Behavior).

*A list of approved Drug Prevention and Group Facilitation courses available at other Connecticut colleges and universities may be found on the Connecticut State Department of Education website.
    • Remaining course work (24 semester credit hours) may be distributed among a variety of areas associated with Health Education. (See Connecticut State Department of Education for list of Central approved courses for Cross-Endorsement in Health Education).

For more information, please see the Connecticut State Department of Education website.

The ultimate decision as to which courses are applicable to the Cross Endorsement in Health Education rests with the State Certification Bureau.

Cross Endorsement in Dance

The school also offers a cross-endorsement in Dance. A cross-endorsement may be obtained by anyone who has an existing teaching certification in any area. The state regulations are that the candidates take coursework in the area in which he/she seeks the endorsement.

Some course work completed as part of the physical education program may be applicable toward the dance cross-endorsement. Courses for cross-endorsement need not be taken only at Central. Course work may be taken at any regionally accredited college. If completing course work at another institution, it is strongly suggested course descriptions be submitted for review to insure acceptability toward the requirements. Please allow sufficient time for such reviews (7-14 days).

For more information, please see the Connecticut State Department of Education website.

The ultimate decision as to which courses are applicable to the Cross Endorsement rests with the State Certification Bureau.
