New Britain PD College Police Academy
The College Police Academy is an externship program that allows students to learn about the police profession while embedded within a police agency. This experiential learning and professional development opportunity is offered to undergraduate Criminology majors.
Students will be exposed to the department’s organization and rank structure, operational logistics and strategies, the generalist and specialist duties of sworn and civilian personnel, the application of law and administrative procedure, and community engagement.
Moreover, students will be familiarized with recruitment and training standards. The academy provides students with an early opportunity to explore the career track, and the host agency has the potential to enhance its visibility in terms of recruitment. Typical programming requires a 4-week commitment. Students will be required to travel to the host agency approximately twice each week. Meeting times are approximately three hours.
This is a great opportunity to build your resume and get exposure to the field!
