DAM Access
Access the DAM with your Central email and password by navigating to www.ccsu.edu/dam or using the button below.
After you log in you should have access to browse assets currently in the DAM but you won't be able to upload new assets until I assign you to an access group.
Uploading Files
Once your permissions are set, you should see the option to upload assets at the top right of the dashboard.
Here is a video covering how uploading assets works:
Asset Upload Key Points
Upload Profile
Set to "Public Assets"
- Public Assets are normal assets available in the DAM normally
- Restricted Assets are assets that are not available to general users of the DAM but are still accessible by admins
- For Review Assets are assets that are marked to be reviewed before being made public. This is typically to review assets uploaded by photographers before going live
Select Categories
This sets the default category for all the assets being uploaded.
- Categories are shown in the navigation on the top left of the dashboard
- Assets can be in multiple categories
Add Metadata
This sets the default metadata for all the images being uploaded. This will be set for every image uploaded, but can be changed for individual assets after upload.
All these fields can be used to help search and filter assets.
- Usage Rights - Generally this should be set to "Open Use"
- Asset Type - For now, all assets should be "Images"
- Subject - This identifies broadly what the image is of. Multiple selections can be made
- Photographer - This is the name of the photographer who took the photos
- Alt Text - A brief description of the subject of the asset. This is for ADA compliance
- Campus Location - where the photos were taken. This is a preset list. We can add new locations if necessary
- Environment - Indoor or Outdoor
- Photo Attributes - These are attributes that allow for further filtering of graphics based on our needs
- Year - The year the asset was created
- Season - The season the asset was created
- Description - This is a description of the asset that is used in the DAM
- Keywords - This is a place where you can add keywords to help refine search
- Entity Type - Identifies if the subject is a School, Department, Office, Etc.
- Tags - These are pseudo properties that can be used to filter assets further. This should be left empty for now. Once we get more acclimated to the system and reach the final(ish) version of our metadata, we can start talking about how to best implement these tags
Security Settings
Generally this doesn't need to be changed, but release dates and expiration dates can be set here.

Review & Edit
Set Metadata for Individual Assets
Here you can see the status of the assets as they are processed in the DAM. Once they are completed, click the first asset to open the asset details.
Complete all metadata fields specific to the selected asset. When the asset is updated, save and click the next ( > ) arrow at the top right of the screen.
Repeat for all the assets. When all assets have their metadata set, click "Back to Summary"
Create Global Collection
- Select all the assets in the upload. They should be selected by default but you can select them manually or by clicking the check box next to the where it lists the number of files in the upload.
- At the bottom of the screen, Click "+ Add To," then click Collection
- Either select which collection you would like the assets to be added or select "New collection" and fill out the details.
- Click "Make collection global" if the intention is to share this collection publicly. Otherwise, the collection will only be visible to you. (I will create a tutorial for sharing collections publicly in the near future)
Collections can be found on the dashboard navigation next to the "Categories" menu
