Choosing the Appropriate Faculty Development Grant

Faculty Development Grant:

Supports a broad range of professional development activities, including courses, training certifications, conferences, workshops, and related travel. Applicants should use this program when the professional development opportunity and associated expenses are known by the regular application deadline.

Faculty Development Conference/Workshop Travel-Only Grant:

Supports travel to conferences and workshops only. These additional application rounds are intended for conference or workshop travel opportunities that arise after the regular Faculty Development Grant deadline or when conference details were not available in the time to apply during the regular round.

Not sure which competition to use?

If your conference or workshop details are available in time for the regular Faculty Development Grant deadline, apply through the regular Faculty Development Grant process. The Travel-Only Grant rounds are intended to provide additional opportunities for conference/workshop travel later in the academic year.

Please Note: Faculty members are limited to submitting 2 proposals across all rounds of the Faculty Development Grant competition, regular and travel-only, per academic year.

2026-2027 Internal Grants Requests for Proposals

Clusters of Excellence vs. Next Generation
Which Grant Should You Apply For?

NOTE: You may apply for the Clusters of Excellence Grant OR the Next Generation Grant. You may not apply for both.

Apply for the Clusters of Excellence Grant if:

  • Your primary objective is applied research, while establishing an interdisciplinary team (specific industry cluster themes are listed in the RFP). Faculty, students, and industry/community representatives are required interdisciplinary partners.
  • Your project aims to position Central as a thought leader in solving broad, complex societal issues.

Apply for the Next Generation Grant if:

  • Your project focuses on applied learning, student success, or building direct pipelines with regional industry and civic partners.
  • You are an individual, single department, or small collaborative group seeking to launch or enhance a sustainable campus initiative.
  • Note: This grant provides a maximum $1,200 faculty stipend but does not fund faculty release time or external agency contracts.
