Dr. Button will define what ‘sustainability’ is (and is not). He will discuss the tenets of each of the three pillars of sustainability (social, economic, environmental) and explain how these three pillars interact with one another.

Impact of Land Use Policies on Racial Segregation in Connecticut

Renata Bertotti, AICP, Town Planner, Town of Newington
Renata will talk about the process by which the land use policies in our communities are created, who creates them, the role of land use in CT becoming one of the most racially and income segregated states in the US, and what is needed to effectuate a change.

Much has been said about the effect that the built environment, specifically residential and commercial buildings have on our environment. From construction and operation to deconstruction, the real estate sector uses more energy (40%) than any other sector. Can we meet the needs of our people, save our planet, and still make a profit?
