Hispanic & Latino Heritage Month Celebration: 'Ritmo do Brasil' & Study Abroad Fair

October 14, 2025
12:00 PM - 3:00 PM
Student Center Circle

The LALCC, Mosaic Center, and CIE are excited to partner for the third year in a row to celebrate Hispanic & Latino Heritage Month, with this year’s theme highlighting Brazilian culture through our “Flavors and Sounds of Brasil” and Study Abroad Fair.

While Brazilians are not considered Hispanic, they are Latino—Brazil being the largest country in Latin America, with Portuguese as its official language. Connecticut is home to a large and growing Brazilian community, reflected in the number of Brazilian students at Central and rising interest in Brazilian culture and history.

This vibrant celebration will feature study abroad booths, where students can meet faculty leading trips this academic year. The event will kick off with a Capoeira workshop and performance from Benção Capoeira from noon to 1 p.m. Capoeira is an Afro-Brazilian art form that combines martial arts, dance, acrobatics, and music. From 1 to 2 p.m., Brazilian instructor Thelma Ladeira from Arts for Learning Connecticut will lead a samba dance workshop.

Music will be provided throughout by a WFCS student DJ, and local food trucks will offer Brazilian cuisine with a ticket voucher. The event is free and open to the entire campus community. In case of rain, it will be moved indoors to Alumni Hall.
