Sigma Tau Delta is an international English honor society that recognizes high achievement in English language and literature in undergraduate, graduate, and professional studies. Sigma Tau Delta seeks to promote interest in literature and the English language in surrounding communities; to foster all aspects of the discipline of English, including literature, language, and writing; to acknowledge exemplary character and good fellowship among its members; and to serve society by fostering literacy.

The Alpha Mu Lambda Chapter of Sigma Tau Delta at Central Connecticut State University was chartered in the spring of 2009. Since then, chapter members have organized a variety of activities such as book drives to benefit the New Britain Public Library, food drives for the local food bank, and group outings to plays at the Playhouse on Park Road in West Hartford. In organizing and hosting an Induction Ceremony each fall, we are always looking forward to engaging new members and new leaders in our shared commitments to community engagement, literary studies, and the literary arts.
