Central Connecticut State University and the University of Hartford have teamed up to create a new, streamlined pathway for students pursuing careers in athletic training—making it easier than ever to go from undergraduate study to a graduate degree in the field.
Through a newly signed articulation agreement, qualified students in the University of Hartford’s Exercise Science program will have a direct route into Central’s Master of Science in Athletic Training (MSAT) program. The agreement guarantees admission for up to five students each year who meet established academic and program requirements, with the possibility of additional students accepted based on program capacity.
“This partnership reflects our deep commitment to creating clear pathways for all students to achieve their goals,” said Central President Dr. Zulma R. Toro. “By working together with the University of Hartford, we are making it easier for aspiring athletic trainers to move confidently from undergraduate study to professional practice, equipped with the knowledge, experience, and support they need to succeed.”
Students in the program will apply by April 1 during their senior year at the University of Hartford and, upon successful completion of their bachelor’s degree and required prerequisites, will transition directly into Central’s MSAT program for the summer session. Admission through this pathway is non-competitive for students who meet the criteria, providing a more accessible and predictable route to graduate study.
In addition to streamlined admissions, the partnership emphasizes collaboration between the two institutions, including coordinated advising, career counseling, and ongoing support to help students succeed academically and professionally.
Central’s MSAT program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (CAATE) and prepares students for careers working with athletes and active populations in a variety of clinical and performance settings.
The agreement took effect on March 1, 2026, and will remain in place through February 2028, with the option to extend.
