Parent PLUS / Parent Borrowing Changes
Annual and lifetime caps on Parent PLUS loans
Beginning July 1, 2026, parents borrowing through Parent PLUS will be capped at $20,000 per year per dependent student, and $65,000 lifetime per student.
Under the bill, dependent students must first exhaust their unsubsidized loan eligibility before Parent PLUS can be used to fill gaps.
