Jewish Heritage and Holocaust Memory is a Central Discover Abroad program designed to tell the story of Jewish communities in Central Europe before, during, and after the Holocaust. The program begins in Vienna, Austria, and includes stops in Bratislava, Slovakia, and Budapest, Hungary. It concludes in Krakow, Poland, with a visit to Auschwitz. Throughout our travels, we will visit Jewish heritage and Holocaust sites and museums, as well as explore places that were once home to thriving pre-war Jewish communities.

As we conclude the trip, we plan to visit Krakow and Auschwitz during the Jewish Cultural Festival. This timing allows us to celebrate resilience while honoring the memory of those who perished.
As a Central Discover Abroad program, Jewish Heritage and Holocaust Memory differs from Central’s student travel programs. This distinction is reflected in a higher standard of travel and accommodation and a broader audience that will likely include participants from a range of age groups. As a multigenerational program, we recognize that participants may have varying interests and energy levels, and the itinerary will be planned and paced accordingly.

Each day will include Jewish heritage and Holocaust-related activities, along with time set aside for participants to explore independently (with or without Central staff support) or to relax and enjoy the surroundings. As a Central Discover Abroad program, we also recognize that not all participants will be local to Greater Hartford or Connecticut. Accordingly, pricing will include a ground-only option for those traveling independently. This option also accommodates participants who wish to extend their time in Europe before or after the program.

Although this program focuses on Jewish heritage, we warmly welcome participants of all faiths.
