Applying for Admission

For consideration, applicants must submit the following:

1. A completed online application and supplemental materials (ccsu.edu/apply)

  • Completed copy of Central English proficiency form showing an advanced level of standard academic English proficiency

   • Copy of official TOEFL iBT score of 79 or higher (if required)
   • Letter to Central English Department detailing reasons for pursuing graduate study in Applied Linguistics, preferred track (TESOL or LLP), and career plans in the field
   • $50 application fee
2. Official undergraduate and graduate transcripts from a regionally accredited institution of higher education for schools other than Central (GPA of 3.00 or higher)

  • Applicants with a GPA of 2.40 or higher might be admitted conditionally (based on additional evidence of academic potential provided in the Letter of Application) at the discretion of the department
  • Applicants must have completed at least 3 credits of study in a second language (non-native English speakers may satisfy this with English)
