Mission Statement

What does the Pre-Collegiate and Access Services Department Provide?

The Pre-Collegiate & Access Services Department’s mission is to provide a diverse population of first-generation and low-income student access into higher education by preparing them to meet high academic, personal, and social standards. The Educational Opportunity Program is housed under PAS.

What is the Educational Opportunity Program?

The Educational Opportunity Program was designed for students who have the potential to successfully perform college-level academic work, but who do not meet regular admissions standards. To qualify, students must be Connecticut residents who have graduated with a high school diploma or G.E.D. and who demonstrate financial need. E.O.P. students must complete a five-week summer academic program to become full-time matriculated students during the fall semester. As a residential program, EOP students are required to attend classes Monday through Friday in English, mathematics, reading, career exploration, study skills, and critical thinking. During the evenings, staff provides students with individualized tutoring, academic and personal counseling. Throughout their college years E.O.P. students receive personal, academic, financial aid, and career advising. E.O.P. and the campus community provides support services to ensure that our students obtain their bachelor’s degree.
