The Center for International Education prepares H-1B petitions on behalf of non-immigrant workers employed at Central Connecticut State University. Attorneys are not able to petition for H-1B status on behalf of CCSU faculty and staff, but that policy does not prohibit faculty members from seeking legal counsel. The processing time for H-1B range from six (6) to eight (8) months for document gathering, applying for Labor Certification through the U.S. Department of Labor, and sending all documents to the Department of Homeland Security. The maximum period permitted in H-1B status for any employee is six (6) years.
There are two (2) basic steps involved in applying for an initial H-1B or extension of H-1B status, and step one has to be processed and approved by the Department of Labor before the Center for International Education (CIE) can proceed with step two:

The initial step involves applying for Labor Certification by sending in a Labor Condition Application through the U.S. Department of Labor. This is a process that usually takes about ten (10) business days.

The second step entails applying for H-1B status through the Department of Homeland Security. This process can take from two (2) to four (4) months.
No application will be processed without the "Deemed Export Control" form completed in its entirety.
