Mission
The mission of the University Development Office is to enhance the mission of Central Connecticut State University through voluntary contributions from alumni, parents, non-alumni friends, corporations, foundations and other charitable organizations. Philanthropic support is increasingly more important as traditional sources of funding decline.
The University Development Office focuses on non-governmental support and non-competitive grants. Governmental and private competitive sources of funding are handled by the Office of Sponsored Programs.
Our Role in Fund Raising
The Vice President for Institutional Advancement is the executive officer in charge of University advancement. The Director of Development is the chief advancement officer responsible for all activities which relate to the identification, cultivation and solicitation of gifts from internal and external constituencies.
The fund-raising objectives of the University Development Office are focused primarily on the priorities contained in the strategic plan of the University.
The University Development Office will assist departments with programs or projects in need of external funding. Faculty and administrators seeking voluntary support need to contact the University Development Office for assistance very early in the process. The Development Office will assist in preparing case materials, identifying sources of support, cultivating prospective donors and ultimately soliciting prospective donors.
All programs and projects presented to the University Development Office for external funding must be reviewed and approved by the presenter's Department Head, Dean, and Vice President.
Solicitation Policy
Effective fund raising requires that prospects are not presented with multiple requests from different departments simultaneously. To ensure effective solicitation efforts, no prospects may be solicited without the advance approval of the Vice President for Institutional Advancement. Approval to solicit prospects should be requested through the Director of Development.
