Whether or not sophisticated societies existed in the Amazon before European conquest is one of the major questions of Latin American history. Recent research has made clear that they did.
Dr. Cabral is a Visiting Scholar in Archaeology and the Ancient World at Brown University in Providence for the Fall 2023. She holds a doctorate in Anthropology with a concentration in Archaeology from the Federal University of Para in Brazil and is the author of numerous publications. She is a faculty member in Brazil where she is known for collaboratively engaging indigenous knowledge systems to understand Indigenous archaeologies in the Amazon.
