Undergraduate Program

Economics (B.A.)

The Bachelor of Arts program in Economics offers students the opportunity to explore different views and approaches to economic questions and policies. The program’s rigorous structure integrates critical and analytical skills to prepare students to enter the workforce or continue graduate studies. The program requires a minimum of 30 credits in Economics, as well as Applied Calculus and Statistics.

Minor in Economics

The minor in Economics is designed for students interested in combining their majors with the wide range of upper level offerings in Economics. After completing Econ 200 and Econ 201, students are required to complete 12 additional credits of upper level electives courses in Economics.

Learning Outcomes

Graduates with a Bachelor of Arts in Economics should be able to:

  1. Explain the assumptions and logic of theoretical models in microeconomics, macroeconomics, and political economy.

  2. Apply economic concepts and theories to real world settings, such as current events, historical events, public policy debates, or other economic issues or problems.

  3. Perform quantitative analysis, such as mathematical calculations or econometric estimations, in order to validate economic models.

  4. Analyze the complexity of human behavior – such as individual decision making, aggregate behavior, or behavior related to social groups – using economic tools of analysis.

  5. Develop an independent argument that evaluates an economic issue or debate using economic tools of analysis.
