Dancentral to perform 'Perspectives' on Nov. 22

Central Connecticut State University’s student dance company Dancentral will present “Perspectives,” on Saturday, Nov. 22, at 7 p.m. in Welte Auditorium on the Central campus, as well as livestreaming at http://www.ccsu.edu/dance and on YouTube

“Perspectives” is a showcase of original student choreographed works created this fall semester under the mentorship of Dancentral director Erica Nelson, and other Dance faculty members and alumni. Featuring a multitude of different dance styles, including contemporary, jazz, ballet, hip-hop and tap, the performance showcases the artistry of emerging choreographers and dancers at Central. This fall showcase is almost entirely student produced and presents a unique opportunity for students to work together and run their own dance show at a professional level of production.

Admission is free, with suggested donations of $5 to $10 gratefully accepted in cash. These donations, in addition to the funds raised from the bake and flower sales in the lobby, will support the creation of Dancentral performances and fund the group’s attendance at the American College Dance Association New England Conference in the coming spring semester.

“This showcase represents months of hard work, collaboration, and creativity,” said Marissa McPherson, the president of Dancentral. “It’s a chance for our dancers to share their voices and for audiences to feel the power of movement that connects us all. We’re so excited to see it all come to life on stage and to share this experience with everyone in the audience.”

Dancentral is a student-led dance performance company at Central. Founded in 1978, the company creates an inclusive and positive environment for Central students to share their love of dance in all styles, including contemporary, hip-hop, tap, jazz, modern, Afro-Caribbean, ballet, and more. The company offers dance performances annually and hosts regional and internationally acclaimed guest artists.
