Research Opportunities

All students earning a degree in the Biomolecular Sciences department conduct independent research. We believe research experiences are critical to understanding science, but also provide additional benefits. Students engaged in research develop relationships with faculty mentors, become part of a student research community, develop practical laboratory and analytical skills, and strengthen their applications for jobs, graduate programs in science, and professional programs in health-related fields.

How do I choose a research project?

  • View faculty research profiles (links below).
  • Attend Friday Seminars (BMS 190 and BMS 290 courses, a part of our degree program). In seminar, our faculty describe their research projects and the ways our students design and conduct research in their labs.
  • Attend student research presentations held at the end of each semester (last Friday seminar meeting)

How do I get started?

  • Decide which faculty mentor's research team you would like to join
  • Send them an email or attend office hours. When you contact the professor, let them know you are interested in registering for research credit with them.
  • The faculty member will contact the department chair, who will register you for the appropriate research class (BMS 390 - first semester conducting research; BMS 491 - additional semesters of research)
