Biography

My research asks how and why RNAs assemble into large, organelle-like structures in the cell. My students and I study this in cultured human cells using genome editing, fluorescent microscopy, and a variety of medically-relevant drugs and environmental stressors. I love teaching courses on the fundamental molecular basis of life, and thinking about how this knowledge can be used to improve human health. Regardless of the topic, I always enjoy chatting about science with students in and out of class.
