On Nov. 24, the Central Design program welcomed students from Wilcox Technical High School for a hands-on AI image-to-image button workshop. Led by Professor Peggy Ann Bloomer, the session introduced students to how artificial intelligence can enhance creativity in design. They were supported by Central Design student mentors Anthony Ashley and Evan Mir, with coordination from administrator Kevin Rivera.
During the workshop, visiting students used AI tools and graphic design software to transform their selfies into custom wearable buttons. This fun and interactive experience offered a look into real-world design practices and the role emerging technologies play in modern creative work.
CLASS Dean Gilbert Gigliotti stopped by to observe, highlighting Central’s dedication to experiential learning and its commitment to building strong pathways from technical high school programs to university-level studies in design and technology.
The visit also featured a guided campus tour, lunch at Memorial Hall, and some time inside the XR Lab at the Innovation Hub in Engineering. The event was supported by the Center for Community Engagement and Social Research.
