Get ready to Bingocize at Central Community Health Clinic

The Community Health Education Clinic at Central has been selected as one of five regional sites in Connecticut to implement Falls Free CT’s Bingocize program.

Bingocize is an evidence-based program that combines light exercise and health education with the game of bingo. This initiative is supported through grant funding from the National Council on Aging and the Administration for Community Living, distributed through Falls Free CT, a falls prevention coalition.

Central’s selection as a regional site reflects its commitment to serving an aging population. In 2017, Central joined the Age-Friendly University Global Network, ensuring inclusive, age-friendly programs.

“Bingocize is an innovative and fun way to get older adults and people with disabilities moving and engaging socially, as well as working on their fitness and balance,” Lisa McMahon, community health education clinic coordinator, said.

McMahon co-led the grant submission with Dr. Jayanthi Kandiah, dean of the College of Health & Rehabilitation Sciences.

“We’re excited to bring this evidence-based program to our community as part of Central’s commitment to healthy aging,” Kandiah said.

As part of the grant, Central will host the 10-week Bingocize program at least three times between October 2025 and October 2026. Sessions will be held at the Community Health Education Clinic and led by staff, with opportunities for interdisciplinary student involvement from athletic training, exercise science and social work programs.
McMahon said she is looking forward to what the program will bring to the clinic and the community.

“It's going to be super fun,” McMahon said. "It'll be a really good opportunity for students too as well. I’m really excited about that.”

More details about Bingocize will be shared as the program progresses.
