Central enters the chat with new multimedia production major

Published:

As the media landscape continues to accelerate and converge, Central has introduced a Bachelor of Arts in Integrated Multimedia program built for professionals who create, adapt, and lead across platforms.

This new academic program will prepare students to thrive in a fast-changing industry where storytelling, technology, and creativity intersect. Designed to reflect how media is made today, the interdisciplinary program draws on faculty expertise from the Art & Design, Communication, Journalism, and Music departments to provide students with a comprehensive foundation in multimedia creation.

Students also will gain hands-on experience across formats while building a professional content portfolio through two applied learning requirements. All students are required to build a content creation portfolio, culminating in a special capstone project, and complete an internship, in which students will work in teams for an external organization or an on-campus client.

Students will graduate with skills applicable to numerous career paths, including roles in cable, broadcast, streaming, nonprofit, and corporate environments.

Additional program highlights

  • Students work in state-of-the-art facilities across campus, including Apple-equipped computer labs, a TV studio, audio recording suites, podcasting and music production spaces, and professional-grade recording equipment.
  • Students may specialize in areas such as Video and Music, Motion Graphics and Human-Centric Design, Data Visualization, or Emerging Technology, or build a customized path across multiple areas. Coursework spans established and emerging fields, including Digital Film Production, Broadcast News, Streaming Media, UX/UI, AV/VR, and Artificial Intelligence.
  • Courses are taught primarily by full-time faculty with significant industry experience.
  • The program offers a seamless pathway for transfer students from two-year digital arts or media technology programs, as well as students in Central’s Dual Enrollment program, which offers high school students at Central’s partner schools and districts the opportunity to earn college credit from Central.
