Central Connecticut State University students are soaking up the art, history, language, and coastal beauty of southern Italy during a transformative three-week study abroad course titled WL300: UNESCO World Heritage Sites in Southern Italy. Departing on July 5 and returning on July 26, the group is traveling with World Languages, Literatures, and Cultures professor Simone Puleo to the city of Salerno, with excursions throughout the Amalfi Coast and the surrounding Campania region.
This immersive course allows students to explore the world-renowned UNESCO sites that dot the coastline and countryside—such as the dramatic cliffs of the Amalfi Coast, the ancient ruins of Pompeii, and the cathedrals and medieval architecture that define the region.
In addition to academic discovery, students embrace the Italian lifestyle by practicing the language in everyday interactions, sampling the region’s celebrated cuisine—including freshly caught seafood, Neapolitan pizza, handmade pastas, and an array of local cheeses and cured meats—and exploring the Mediterranean coast.
Through walking tours, museum visits, language lessons, and shared meals in family-run trattorias and pizzerias, students gain a firsthand appreciation of Italy’s traditions and contemporary charm.
