Artist Talk Series

His projects have been widely shown across the US and internationally as well as featured in numerous publications and media outlets, including Wired, The Guardian, The Picture Show from NPR, Slate, CNN, Hyperallergic, Gizmodo, Buzzfeed News, Vice Magazine, the New York Times, Utne Reader, Hotshoe Magazine, Flavorwire, the BBC News Viewfinder, Frieze Magazine, the British Journal of Photography, APM’s Marketplace Tech Report, The Washington Post, and Art Papers. His artwork is included in the permanent collections of the High Museum Atlanta, Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art, the Orlando Museum of Art, Portland Art Museum, the Museum of Fine Arts Houston, and the Museum of Contemporary Photography Chicago.

His recent project Geolocation, in collaboration with Marni Shindelman, tracks GPS coordinates associated with Twitter tweets and pairs the text with a photograph of the originating site to mark the virtual information in the real world. New site-specific work from the series was recently completed for Salisbury University Art Galleries in Maryland, Third Space Gallery in New Brunswick, Walter N. Marks Center for the Arts in California, and the Format International Photography Festival in the UK. Larson Shindelman recently created site-specific public artworks for the Atlanta Celebrates Photography Public Art Commission, the Indianapolis International Airport, and the DUMBO Business Improvement District. Geolocation was featured in the “State of the Art” survey exhibition at the Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art in 2014, now touring nationally, including recently at the Mint Museum in Charlotte and Frist Center in Nashville. Flash Powder Projects published a monograph of the project in January 2016.

Nate Larson is currently serving as Chair of the Photography Department at MICA / Maryland Institute College of Art in Baltimore. He was recently the Barbaralee Diamonstein-Spielvogel Visiting Artist Fellow at Duke University, an artist-in-residence at the Robert Rauschenberg Foundation in Florida, and a Rubys Artist Fellow with the Greater Baltimore Cultural Alliance.

Sean Greene was born in San Francisco in 1972, and from age 7, raised in Connecticut and Vermont. He moved to New York City in 1992, and received a bachelor of fine arts degree from the School of Visual Arts in 1996. In 1998 Sean moved to Massachusetts and earned a Master of Fine Arts Degree from the University of Massachusetts Amherst in 2004, where he was awarded a 3 year teaching associateship. He lives and works in Florence, Massachusetts with middle grade and children's writer Molly B. Burnham, and their two children Adelaide and Georgia.

Sean exhibits his art on a regular basis in group shows and occasional solo shows. Highlights include a two person show with Lisa Rybovich Crallè at LAND AND SEA, Oakland, and 3 person shows at Brian Morris Gallery in New York (with Russell Tyler and Matt Phillips), and Geoffrey Young Gallery in Massachusetts (with Gary Petersen and Vince Contarino). In 2014 he was awarded a Massachusetts Cultural Council Fellowship, and has also received grants from the Somerville and Northampton Arts Councils, the Artists Resource Trust. His work is in private collections in the U.S., the U.K., Australia, and France, as well as the corporate collection of Neiman Marcus, and the University Museum of Contemporary Art in Amherst.

Adam Ziskie is a graphic designer and visual artist who spent many years working as an Illustrator before turning his attention to branding and identity design. He has led mural projects at Facebook HQ and illustrated multiple children’s books. His artwork has been shown extensively in the Bay Area and has been featured in Juxtapoz, Hi-Fructose, and Supersonic Art.

KC Councilor is a cartoonist and an Assistant Professor of Communications at Southern Connecticut State University. He is the cartoonist behind the great memoir Between You and Me: Transitional Comics, and has contributed comics to various anthologies including the recently publishedMenopause: A Comic Treatment. He has also made comics for academic journals including a great recent article, Drawing the Body In: A Comic Essay on Trans Mobility and Materiality.

Kelly Murphy is a New York Times-bestselling author-illustrator and recipient of the E.B. White Award. She has notably illustrated the works of William Shakespeare,Jane AustenandBeatrix Potter, as well as book covers for various Newbery Medal winning novels, creating award-winning art for clients worldwide. Her 40+ books have been translated in 15 languages, earning countless awards and starred reviews, featuring on "best books of the year" lists by Publishers Weekly, The Wall Street Journal, People Magazine, Kirkus and The New York Times. Kelly teaches illustration at the Rhode Island School of Design, is a keynote speaker, competition juror, and leads professional workshops nationwide. She lives in Providence, RI, with her husband, author-illustratorAntoine Revoy, and their many animal companions.

Layet Johnson (b. 1985 Little Rock, Arkansas) received his MFA from University of Georgia in 2011. He currently lives and works in Little Rock, Arkansas where he is an educator, illustrator, and sign painter. His illustrations can be found locally atLoblolly Ice Cream, where he painted an indoor mural and has made many merchandise illustrations. He has taught at Central Connecticut State University where he was co-director of the university gallery. He has held fellowships at Vermont Studio Center and Virginia Center for Creative Arts. Recent solo exhibitions include Mystery Bird at Pina (Vienna), Is This My Tongue? at Institute 193 (Lexington),Trip at Good Weather (North Little Rock),Caffé Lasso at Ritual Coffee Roasters (San Francisco), and Sacred Jest at The Invisible Hand (Lawrence, Kansas). Johnson’s work has been included in group exhibitions at Utopian Visions Art Fair (Portland), Arturo Bandini (Los Angeles), Ortega y Gasset Projects (Brooklyn), White Box (New York), and Soil Gallery (Seattle), among others. He currently lives in Little Rock, Arkansas.

Sarah Fritchey is a curator and writer based in New Haven, CT. She is formerly the full-time Curator/Gallery Director at Artspace New Haven, and a contributor to ArtForum.com, Art New England Magazine, and The Fairfield Courant/Hartford Advocate. Her recent projects include Arresting Patterns, a group show exploring patterns of racial bias in the US Criminal Justice System, Gollum: Monsters of Ruin and the Techno-Sublime, a show that rethinks "the self" as "selves" in the digital era, and Vertical Reach, an exhibition of activist art from Russia, Ukraine, Poland, and the US.
