Asian American and Pacific Islander Studies, Minor

Inaugurated in December 2021, Asian American and Pacific Islander Studies is an interdisciplinary minor. The program draws from social science, history, and both literary and cultural traditions to provide students with the knowledge and understanding of the experiences and contributions of Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders in the United States.

Dr. Xiaoping Shen Scholarship

for Students in Asian American and Pacific Islander Studies Minor

Award Criteria:
One or more scholarships shall be awarded to matriculated students who have declared a minor in Asian American and Pacific Islander Studies (AAPIS) as follows:

  1. a $500 scholarship shall be awarded after they have completed nine credits in AAPIS including the core course (AAPI 110) and shall have a GPA minimum of 2.7 overall and 2.7 in AAPIS and be enrolled in the AAPIS. Each student can only get this award once.
  2. a $1,000 scholarship shall be awarded after they have completed the minor (18 credits) and shall have a GPA minimum of 3.0 overall and 3.3 in AAPIS and must have at least 2 credits remaining beyond the semester in which the award is given.

All recipients must submit a statement, approximately 150 words, describing the student’s interest in the AAPIS.

The above awards shall be distributed annually. In case there are no qualified candidates in a year, there will be no award for the year.
