Central to Analyzing Governance and Power.

CCSU’s BA in Political Science provides students with the tools and training necessary to become productive and successful professionals in the public or private sectors, including critical thinking, communication skills, collaboration, and global and intercultural fluency. Program ensures students’ ability to effectively adapt and participate in a rapidly changing world. Graduates earn a broad foundation in American and comparative politics, as well as an understanding of the dynamic relationship between political ideas, behavior, and institutions.

Program Options

 

Allows students to explore all areas of the political science field and to have the most flexibility in course selection.

Requires students to complete Constitutional Law, Civil Liberties, International Law, and Law to better understand the role courts and judges play in U.S. policymaking and the international community.

Prepares students for jobs within government at the local, state, or national level. Includes courses on policy analysis, public finance, and public administration.

Did You Know?

The Department encourages students to study abroad, undertake internships, and pursue undergraduate research. The Department offers short-term study abroad opportunities as well as internships options in Connecticut or in Washington, D.C.

In 2023, the Department is offering a spring break study abroad to Bonaire in the Caribbean.

Learning Outcomes

  1. To comprehend the basic structures and processes of different government systems as these operate in national and/or comparative contexts;
  2. To explain the nature of, interplay and relationship between, interests, institutions, and ideas in government and politics;
  3. To communicate arguments about significant political processes, events, and concepts using appropriate evidence; and
  4. To apply methods appropriate for accumulating and interpreting data applicable to the discipline of political science.
