Biography
J. David Macey (he, him, his) is the dean of the Carol A. Ammon College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences at Central Connecticut State University, where he also holds an appointment as professor of English.
Dr. Macey previously served as dean of the College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences at Fort Hays State University; as interim dean of the College of Liberal Arts, assistant vice president for Academic Affairs, and chairperson of the Department of English at the University of Central Oklahoma; and as a faculty member at the University of Puget Sound.
Dr. Macey is a teacher and scholar of British and African American literature who has published and offered courses over a period of more than three decades on topics ranging from the literature of urban experience in eighteenth-century London to the development of LGBTQ+ literary canons. He has directed thesis and independent study projects on critical, creative, and theoretical topics in English Studies, and he has extensive experience as a teacher of both composition and creative writing.
Dr. Macey has served in leadership roles with the Oklahoma Center for Community and Justice (OCCJ), Cimarron Alliance (now Freedom Oklahoma), Interweave Continental, and Hays (Kansas) Pride. He is a past recipient of OCCJ’s Oklahoma City Humanitarian Award, of Cimarron Alliance’s Toch Award, and of Lifetime Achievement Awards from the University of Central Oklahoma’s College of Liberal Arts and Office of Diversity and Inclusion.
