Overall Expectations

Reporting to the LGBT Center’s University Assistant, student workers assist in maintaining and staffing the Center’s offices. Student workers will provide information and resources to visitors and fulfill the daily operations of the Center. Workers are not expected to be LGBTQ-identified themselves however all students working in the Center are expected to be familiar with and supportive of issues faced by the LGBTQ community and have an interest in LGBTQ student support services. Training on these issues and the support networks that are available to CCSU’s LGBTQ community will be provided.

Student workers must be willing to learn about a range of issues affecting the LGBTQ community and become comfortable speaking to students, faculty, staff, parents, and prospective students about LGBTQ life on our campus and the services we offer. Student workers will represent the center and provide resources, referrals, and information about upcoming LGBTQ-related events. Occasionally, student workers will be required to lend a friendly and affirming ear to those wishing to discuss sensitive issues such as the coming out process, supporting a friend or family member, or reporting a potential bias incident or discrimination. Student workers are mandated reporters.

Applicants must have a work-study award in their Financial Aid Package to be eligible for employment.
