Students celebrate sweet success

Two Central Connecticut State University student designers received a warm welcome on Dec. 8 at President Toro’s office, where she thanked them personally for bringing this year’s presidential holiday card to life.

Graphic Design student workers Emily Ramirez ’25 and Alexia Strumi ’27 created the 2025 holiday greetings—an annual MarComm tradition that gives student designers the chance to showcase their talent on special seasonal project. Card concepts by the entire student design team will be available to other campus leaders to use in their own holiday greetings.

Strumi designed the print version of the card, rendering Davidson Hall into a whimsical gingerbread house, complete with a peppermint-swirl clock perched in the building’s iconic tower. Ramirez took that peppermint swirl and set it in motion for the animated online version, adding a gentle cascade of snow before rolling in the festive text.

Toro will mail the printed cards to her annual business holiday list, and the static design will add a cheerful touch to the athletic fields jumbotron, digital screens across campus, and the university’s social media channels. The animated version will be shared digitally and highlighted on the university’s main website.

During their visit, Ramirez and Strumi spoke with Toro about how their work in the MarComm office is helping them to build professional portfolios and prepare for real-world creative careers. The meeting wrapped up on a sweet note, as Toro surprised the students with some gingerbread of their own and other holiday treats.
