3 Meaningful Ways to Give Through Life Insurance
If your life insurance policy was originally purchased for a need that no longer exists, such as providing for children who are now financially independent or ensuring a spouse’s security, you might consider using it to make a lasting difference at Central. Life insurance can be a powerful, flexible tool for giving. Here are three common ways to make it part of your legacy:
One of the easiest ways to give is to name Central Connecticut State University as a beneficiary of your policy. Simply update your beneficiary form through your insurance provider. You can choose to name Central as the primary beneficiary for a set amount or percentage, or as a contingent beneficiary, receiving the proceeds only if the primary beneficiary is no longer living.
You can also make an outright gift of a policy you already own by transferring ownership to Central and naming us as the beneficiary. When you itemize your deductions, you may be eligible for a federal income tax deduction based on the policy’s current value. If you continue to pay premiums, those payments may also qualify as charitable deductions each year.
If you're looking for a long-term way to support Central, you can purchase a new life insurance policy and irrevocably name Central as both the owner and beneficiary. This option is especially appealing to younger donors. Whether you pay a single premium or opt for annual payments, each payment may be tax deductible when you itemize.
Life insurance can be a powerful way to turn a modest investment into a meaningful gift. If you're considering this type of contribution, we’d be honored to help you explore the best option for your goals.
