Special BlueNet Accounts (Vendors/Volunteers/Unpaid or Guests)

Faculty and Staff may sponsor special BlueNet accounts for these purposes:

  • Vendors, Volunteers, Unpaid employees - people in this category are doing university-related work, but are not in our Banner system as paid employees. They need to agree to the CSCU IT-001 Acceptable Use Policy and will be issued a BlueNet account that begins with "ven_", and will include an email address and file storage space if requested. A full-time faculty or staff member must request the account, is considered the sponsor, and is responsible for ensuring the account is used according to our policies and procedures. Accounts in this category will expire on August 1st of each year unless an earlier date is specified, and may be renewed yearly.
  • Guests - people in this category are guests for a conference, special event or class. Faculty and staff may sponsor a guest account and are responsible for ensuring it is used according to our policies and procedures. The account is only to be used while the guest is on campus and will not include an email address or file storage space. Guest accounts have an expiration date not to exceed 90 days from the date requested. If the guest account for is for a conference or special event, multiple people may use the same account username/password (for example, to log into the instructor workstations or student computers).

Additional Information:

  • For vendor, volunteer, and unpaid employee accounts It is highly recommended that they complete the Vendor Account Verification form linked in the email you receive with their account information. This allows them to call the IT Help Desk for assistance with their account should they need their password reset; otherwise any requests for account assistance would need to go through you as the sponsor and may delay access to the account. If a vendor account password expires, they can change it themselves using Accounts Management. They choose "Manage Your Account", NOT "Forgot Password". If a vendor forgets their password, they or their sponsor must call the Help Desk.
  • Guest accounts for a conference or special event may be used by multiple people. Provide the username/password to the guests (for example, to log into the instructor workstations or student computers).
  • A BlueNet account is not needed for guests to use the ccsu-public wireless network. Guests may register for the ccsu-public wireless network themselves using their mobile device (phone, tablet, computer). For more information about the campus wireless account for guests, see https://www.ccsu.edu/it/itselfhelpfaq/access_wireless_network.html.
