The Ebenezer Bassett - Dr. Carter G. Woodson African American Studies Lecture Series presents "Marian Anderson and The Negro Spirituals" performed by Elizabeth Lyra Ross.

Elizabeth Lyra Ross, originally from Detroit, graduated from Trinity College in Hartford and the Indiana University School of Music in Bloomington, Ind. Since completing her enlistment with the United States Army Band and Chorus, her international career has included the opera roles of Aida, Tosca, both Bess and Serena in "Porgy and Bess," Madame Butterfly, Donna Anna, and Santuzza.
She appeared with the New York Metropolitan Opera, and she was in the New York City Opera production of "Porgy and Bess" that was nominated for an Emmy Award on the Live from Lincoln Center Series. Her oratorio repertoire includes the Verdi Requiem, Britten War Requiem, Mozart C Minor Mass, Elijah by Mendelssohn, and Handel’s Messiah.

Equally at home on the recital stage, her specifically themed individual concerts have been enthusiastically received throughout the United States and Europe.
