Advanced Official Certificate of Practice (OCP) for Superintendent of Schools

The Executive Leadership program at Central Connecticut State University is designed for educational leaders seeking certification as a School District Superintendent (093). The student will develop an understanding of the roles and responsibilities of the school superintendent and other central office leadership positions. The coursework addresses the diverse groups, tasks, and issues facing the superintendent and central office administrators. Leading for equity is a major focus of the program. The core program consists of three courses on theory, research, and practice (EDL 681, EDL 682 and EDL 683) and a two-semester, year-long internship with a superintendent mentor (EDL 695 and EDL 696). All courses are taken in a cohort model to enable students to foster collegial networking and to strengthen collaborative skills. Candidates complete 15 semester hours as mandated by the State Department of Education.

The program serves one cohort of students at a time. Cohorts begin in the summer and complete the program by May of the subsequent year. Applications are due by April 15 for full consideration for summer admission. New cohorts are admitted each summer.
