Ensuring our digital content is accessible to everyone is a top priority at Central. It is the responsibility of everyone who creates, post, or distributes any digital content to ensure the information they share complies the University's standards for creating accessible content.

What is Happening

The Department of Justice issued a rule requiring universities and colleges that fall under Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) to follow specific requirements for web and mobile accessibility by April 24, 2026.

All faculty and staff who create digital content for websites, student services, or university communications—must ensure compliance with Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA.

Documents

Accessible documents are designed so that everyone, including people with disabilities, can easily understand and use them. This means incorporating features like proper headings, alternative text for images, logical reading order, sufficient color contrast, and keyboard navigation. Creating accessible documents ensures inclusivity and broadens your audience.

Accessible video incorporates features like captions for those who can't hear, audio descriptions or transcripts for those who can't see, and keyboard navigation for all controls. Making your video accessible unlocks it for a wider audience and ensures everyone can experience your content fully.

Website Content

All content on the University website must comply with the WCAG 2.1 Level AA standards. Your webmaster will ensure content on the web complies with the standard and will assist with any questions regarding creating compliant web pages.
