Scholarship Eligibility Criteria

These criteria must be met by new applicants for a CSMP scholarship as well as by those students whose scholarship is being renewed for the subsequent semester. Students must:

  • Be a citizen of the United States, a national of the United States, an alien admitted as refugees, or an alien lawfully admitted to the United States for permanent residence;

  • Be enrolled full time in or accepted to one of CSMP academic programs:

    • At Central Connecticut State University:

      • Computer Science:

        • BS is Computer Science, Honors

        • BS in Computer Science, Alternative

      • Mathematics:

        • BA in Mathematics

        • BA in Mathematics with Specialization in Actuarial Sciences

        • BA in Mathematics with Specialization in Statistics

        • BS in Mathematics (Certifiable for secondary teaching)

      • Physics:

        • BS in Physics

        • BS in Physics (Certifiable for secondary teaching)

    • At Manchester Community College

      • Computer Network Technology, A.S.

      • Computer Science: CSCU Pathway Transfer, A.A.

      • Mathematics Studies: CSCU Pathway Transfer, A.A.

      • Physics Studies: CSCU Pathway Transfer, A.A.

      • Liberal Arts and Science: Mathematics Sequence, A.S.

      • Liberal Arts and Science: Physics Sequence, A.S.

  • Demonstrate financial need each semester, as determined by the Office of Financial Aid according to the rules of the US Department of Education;

  • Students beginning at MCC and TCC are expected to transfer to CCSU upon graduation to a Computer Science, Mathematics, or Physics program listed above.

Scholarship Application Requirements

These criteria must be met by those students who apply for a new CSMP scholarship. Successful applicants must demonstrate academic talent, commitment and motivation, time management and communication skills. Students are required to:

  • Complete an application form.

  • Write a personal essay:

    • Explain your academic and career plans;

    • Provide your reasons for majoring in one of CSMP disciplines;

    • Explain what sets you apart from other applicants for the scholarship;

  • Have the results of completed Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) on file at your institution’s financial aid office: CCSU Financial Aid, MCC Financial Aid, TCC Financial Aid.

  • Provide up-to-date (unofficial) transcripts.

  • Provide a proof that you are a citizen of the United States, a national of the United States, an alien admitted as refugees, or an alien lawfully admitted to the United States for permanent residence.

  • Provide two or more letters of recommendation, from current and/or past instructors. At least one letter should address your academic ability and suitability for the program. Preferably, the letters should be enclosed with the application, each in a separate envelope that has been sealed and signed by the recommender.

  • For incoming CCSU freshmen students:

    • Have an SAT score of 1150 out of 1600.

  • For incoming MCC and TCC freshmen students:

    • Place into a college-level Mathematics and English classes using an established placement methodology (College Board Accuplacer system).

Scholarship Renewal Requirements

These criteria must be met by students whose scholarship is being renewed for the subsequent semester. Students must:

  • Demonstrate academic potential or ability by maintaining an overall GPA of 2.75, and a 3.0 GPA in the courses required for their major;

  • Meet the requirements of the chosen degree program:

    • Be on track to graduate on time consistent with a typical degree program for the discipline (typically by being enrolled in at least 12 credits every semester);

    • Take at least one course in their major discipline every semester;

  • Participate in all activities required by the program;

  • Meet all scholarship eligibility criteria (see above).

Applicants other than incoming freshmen for Fall 2019, meeting all other eligibility requirements, may be considered subject to availability of funds. These students are encouraged to apply.
