An Interactive Learning Experience: Revalidation of Clinical Skills for AT Professionals & AT Educators
39th Annual Sports Medicine Symposium
Tuesday, March 5, 2024
Central Connecticut State University Student Center, New Britain, Connecticut
Program Description
Central Connecticut State University’s annual symposium will focus on the current health care skills for athletic trainers and athletic training educators. The program is designed to revalidate and advance clinical knowledge and skills through hands-on interactive learning. Physician-directed didactics will provide the participants with advanced clinical knowledge in conjunction with hands-on skill sessions led by qualified health care providers. Small, interactive, and participant-centered practice sessions will ensure personalized assistance for expanding competency development in the designated clinical skills. Advancing the AT’s clinical skillset will ultimately benefit the care provided to patients served within the athletic trainer’s professional practice. This symposium will provide both current knowledge and revalidation of clinical application skills for orthopedic assessment of the knee, ankle, and hip; general medical assessment for auscultation of chest; and for emergency airway management.
It is essential for athletic trainers to stay current with best practices and continue professional development to ensure the retention and enhancement of their clinical skills. Regular review, hands-on practice and exposure to real-world cases can help to mitigate the decay of clinical skills over time. Additionally, collaborating with colleagues in relevant discussions and training opportunities can contribute to skill retention and development.
Note: The methods and skills practiced within each session are for educational growth, and completion DOES NOT infer certification. Athletic trainers must practice per their respective state practice act, within the standing orders of their collaborating physician(s) and may require appropriate privileging (legal) documents.
